Happy Chinese New Yearrrr!!! 🎉 🎊 🎋 Since CNY is in full swing, let’s talk about the 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 in the world… MONEY 🧧 💰 💲
Did you disapprove / disagree with my statement? Well you’re certainly not alone! Let’s imagine Joshua, a typical Malaysian. If we said to Joshua,
“Woah Joshua, you’re so rich!”
“Woah Joshua, you have so much money!”
“Woah Joshua, you’re the top contender for that promotion!”
Many a typical Malaysian would feign modesty and say, “𝘕𝘰 𝘓𝘈𝘏𝘏𝘏, 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘦!”
Well, let’s imagine Joshua in a second scenario. This time, he’s with his girlfriend. If we said to Joshua,
“Woah Joshua, your girlfriend is so pretty!”
“Woah Joshua, your girlfriend is so nice and friendly!”
What would happen if he responded in the same way? “𝘕𝘰 𝘓𝘈𝘏𝘏𝘏, 𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥. 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦.” Gosh. Soon, Joshua would not have a girlfriend!
Guess what happens when we repeatedly tell others that we have no money 😇 . “Money” will soon break up with us too!
Yes, many of us have a bad relationship with money. In Malaysia, we are so fond of villianizing money and telling our children:
“Money is the root of all evil!”
“Don’t play with money, money is dirty!”
“Rich people became rich by doing bad things!”
This becomes problematic if you happen to be a revenue generator in your organization (or if you’re in finance!). In truth, to attract wealth for ourselves and our organization, we have to move away from what psychologists call a “𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝗺 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴”, and to embrace a “𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙚 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙚𝙩”.
“I’m grateful for the chance to create value for the customer, myself, and my company”
“I’m here to grow richer together with the customer”
“I love money, and money loves me 💕 “
