In a recent Marketing and Sales Strategic Facilitation Session with Plus Xnergy, we delved into the execution of the company's vision and goals. Often, teams lose steam when milestones aren't achieved, and the following are 3 tips to keep the momentum up:
1️⃣ Assign a Facilitator: Just like how a wedding reception needs an Emcee, a strategic session needs a Facilitator. This role is to ensure productivity and prevent the meeting from turning into a complaint fest. While you could engage an external expert, it's beneficial for one of your charismatic leaders to familiarize themselves with brainstorming tools like the Six Thinking Hats to structure the meeting.
2️⃣ Make Your Goals Specific: It's important to employ SMART Goals, a strategy I've seen work wonders in various organizations. Instead of a vague aim like "We need to improve sales for this new product", make it specific with steps, deadlines, and measurable outcomes. For example:
- Step 1: Organize technical product training on 25 June 2023, mandatory attendance for all 28 salespeople
- Step 2: Finalize Sales Presentation Deck, Sample Sales Script and Sales Proposal (signed off by Senior Sales Manager) by 5 July 2023.
- Step 3: Update the Sales Management Tracker each time we receive a lead for the new product and generate a report every Friday.
3️⃣ Assign a Project Guardian: Lastly, appoint or have a volunteer become the Guardian of the Project. This leader's main job is to ensure timelines are met, troubleshoot if things go awry, adjust the plan when necessary, and be accountable to stakeholders.
